Cyprus national competition ‘Twin Cities’ for the creation of a sculpture in the Limassol waterfront sculpture park
Organiser: Limassol Municipality.
One of two winners.
The artwork was constructed and installed in position in summer 2000.
Framed Views: Sculpture proposal for the Limassol Reclamation Park.
Description
This work focuses on framing specific views of the reclamation environment and thus creating dramatic focal points from both perspectives. One of the objectives of the sculpture will be to encourage spectator participation, to pause and look through and beyond the artwork. Two chairs are positioned on either end of the construction. This furniture will encourage the pedestrians to participate in the artwork by sitting in the chairs. Their over scaled dimensions will stimulate childhood memories of the sitter as well as offering them an out of the ordinary experience. This, hopefully, will encourage a freshness of perception to their environment.
During the evening the artwork becomes self referential and creates its own atmosphere and form. This is achieved with the use of various coloured neon or other suitable equivalent.
